I’m Nicholas Walton, and I’m a journalist and writer. I was born in Newcastle in Northeast England, and before settling in Genoa, Italy I lived and worked around the world. I spent 15 years at the BBC as a foreign news journalist and correspondent, before leaving to work in communications for foreign policy and environmental think tanks. I’ve written books on the Netherlands, Singapore and Genoa.
Ten Walks Explain Everything is a journalism project based on the simplest trick I ever had as a journalist: get out and walk. If you do this in ten places, walking and looking and asking questions, you’ll be able to explain everything (or just about everything). My Netherlands book is based on ten walks, and my Singapore book, from a few years ago, was based on one mammoth walk. Bit by bit I’ll add videos and podcasts that accompany the walks, and I hope the next project (Italy in ten walks?) starts soon.
